4 SECONDS OF DOGS BARKING Medical crews headed to an emergency-- side-tracked by what one local captain sees-- A group of what she calls malnourished pit bulls... One of them -- in very bad shape. 3 18:01:18"they were extremely skinny, you could see there rib bones and hip bones." Good evening. There are concerns tonight, about some dogs on the Westside. A Captain with Jacksonville Fire Rescue is talking to Channel 4 this evening about what she calls animal cruelty at one man's home. While responding to a medical call Captain Tammi Reyes says she noticed four malnourished pit bulls in a man's yard on Edmonds Road. She says one of them was extremely emaciated. Tarik Minor talks to Animal Control Services about what they are doing to protect these dogs. 3 3 00-0510-131:21-1:27PKG - Nat At Fire Station 31, crews respond to dozens of calls a day, but fires and medical call outs aren't the only emergencies they encounter. 18:04;12: I know what a malnourished underfed dog looks like."Captain Tammi Reyes says 3 emaciated pit bulls caught her attention in this Westside yard, the 4th dog she says appeared to be near death./18;02:50"It was so crippled, it could not even walk, and it had one of those big chains around its neck."At the house today, that dog wasn't there, only these 3 animals who appeared skinny and agitated. The homeowner was not at home at the time, and didn't return phone calls to channel 4.Investigators with Animal Control say they don't know where the dog is that appeared to be in the worst shape.18:04:38" I don't know what has happened to the other dog." Reyes says she called Animal Control officers on Sunday, but was told by a city worker, that they couldn't authorize overtime hours for an investigator on Sunday. She hopes that delay, didn't cost the missing dog it's life.18:03:35"I feel when I call for help with the city for something that I cannot do, I did not get it." 18:15:13"if we feel the animal is in imminent danger of dying, then we can take it, if the animal is in poor health than we cannot."Nikki Harris with Animal Control says she can't talk about cases that are active and under investigation, but she did say the dogs owner has been given specific instructions, on nursing the dogs back to health. If he doesn't he could loose custody. 18:14:51"typically we follow back up with the things we need to be completed, some officers ask them to fax the records from veterinarians" Iinvestigators have given dogs owners u ntil Monday to take the dogs to a veterinarian."
