A two year pilot program allowing homeowners to raise hens in their backyards is gaining popularity. It's causing some people to scramble to get permits. 3 Good evening everyone. Before owning hens... the homeowners have to attend classes on nutrition, feeding and baby chick management. Some people see the hens as an educational opportunity for their children, for others it's simply a way of life. Only 83 permits are still available for Duval County residents wanting to take part in what's a fast growing trend.
