3 There's some serious trash talk at city hall. A Jacksonville city councilman says the mayor's office has far too cozy a relationship with a major trash hauler... Advanced Disposal... Channel 4's Scott Johnson has been talking to this councilman and the mayor's office about this trash fight - he joins us live. 3 3 right now the city is discussing how much it costs the guys who haul this stuff to pick it up and how much they should charge... and one city councilman is saying it looks like the city does a lot more to make one hauler... advance disposal happy than the others. 00-0611-171:08-1:14 after a meeting at city hall where city leaders discussed the rate of trash haulers ... city councilman john cresCIMBENi came out with harsh words about advance disposal ... or ADS.JOHN CRESCIMBENI 20:56:20 - I have a lot fo questions about ads. I think it's way too cozy a relationship. We deal with 3 residential haulers and it's always ads, ads, ads. There's always these question marks and they're always about ads.right now the city is reviewing the rates they pay these haulers .... and cresCIMBENi says the mayor's office is changing the review process to accommodate them. 20:57:45 - it sounds like me ads is not happy that they're not getting same mark up that other companies are getting, but other companies are investing in new cans, etc. i'm tired of bending over backward for ads quite frankly. CHRIS HAND/MAYOR'S CHIEF OF STAFF 23:46:43 - i'm confused and not quite sure what councilman cresCIMBEN is talking about.when I spoke with the mayor's chief of staff chris hand he says these criticisms made no sense to him. 23:47:31 - It sounds like councilman creSCIMBENi is floundering here, trying to find an issue that doesn't exist. There's not an issue here, from admin's perspective, our only criteria is what's in the best interest of taxpayers.Hand says the administration has made no changes to the city's rate review policy to accommodate ACS ... and he can't understand why the first criticisms he heard were when I let him listen to the councilman's comments to us. 23:48:05 - I actually stood at the podium today scott, and at no point during any of that time did councilman creSCIMBENi raise any of those concerns. So i'm not quite sure why he didn't raise them then, didn't have the courage. I also spoke with Advance Disposal... a spokesperson tells me "WE ARE ABIDING BY OUR CONTRACT AS WRITTEN" ... and "ALL CONTRACTS ARE PUBLIC RECORD"...she added there have been discussions of ADS adopting some automated methods like automated pickup of cans to save money but no official negotiations. 3 Scott, we've reported that Advance Disposal CEO Charlie Appleby donated to mayor brown's first campaign and was selected to be on the mayoral transitional team. Did Councilman Crescimbeni say if the reason the city - in his words - "bends over backwards" for advanced disposal is because of that relationship? "I hope not, but special treatment they always seem to receive could lead people to think otherwise."
