JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime and the disease is treatable if diagnosed early.

Besides being a guy, there are other factors, such as age, race, and family history that may contribute to your risk of prostate cancer. African American men have an even higher risk of prostate cancer.

To help make it easier to get checked, Memorial Hospital offered free prostate and colorectal screenings on Sept. 6.  The need is so prevalent that all the available slots filled up quickly.

Men 40 and older who have not been screened for prostate cancer in the last 12 months are encouraged get themselves checked.
