A stalemate tonight - between a southside business owner - and two dog owners. Two dogs were attacked - and killed - by two other dogs - while they were staying at a local pet salon. Though the dogs' owners - and the business owner ...have tried to make things right - it looks like they may wind up in court. Channel 4's Scott Johnson spoke with both sides in this dispute - Scott's joining us now live with more -- Scott. 3 3 00-0515-2053-561:26-1:31 Shortly before thanksgiving Bob Ulbricht left the and his wife's 2 yorkies at Rad Dogs for a few days... and while they were gone two much larger dogs... a german shepherd and husky chewed through their metal cages and attacked the smaller dogs... killing them. BOB ULBRICHT/DOG OWNER 11:31:54 - it almost killed me and her. I'm 77 and she's 75 and we don't need this in our life.the Ulbricht's were devastated... and started talking with the owner about replacing the dogs...they say early on the owner was friendly...but that changed and now they say the owner has asked them to speak to her attorney.when I stopped by the store I found a much different story... the owner whose concerned about the effects publicity will have on her business asked to not show her face...she says she felt horrible about the attack. CHRISTINE WELLS/BUSINESS OWNER 11:43:26 - we've made a lot of changes to ensure safety of dogs.but she says she's stepped up and already spent over a thousand dollars to make this right for the couple ... even buying them new dogs. But she says the couple keeps asking for more and she was eventually forced to hand this over to an attorney.CHRISTINE WELLS 11:42:47 - 'it sounds like you do want to work this out?' we do, we're animal lovers, this is a tragic freak accident we wuold never want this to happen to anyone.local attorney gene nichols says eventually a judge will have to decide this is small claims court.GENE NICHOLS 11:48:34 - vet bills and dollar amount of the dog. The plaintiff in this case is going to have a tough time recovering anything else and the judge will have to take into account what the defendant has done in order to get the plaintiff as even a the possibly could. The couple says they haven't yet hired an attorney - but as of this point they do plan to take the owner of the business to small claims court. The owner adds she has also made changes in the way she does business - such as no longer allowing big dogs - to make sure this doesn happen again. scott, is there legal recourse for a dog owner who puts their dog in a kennel and has problems? -- Is there any way for dog owners' to protect themselves?
