And one local woman who refused to fall for the scheme.. 3 014355 I just think people need to be aware of the things that come in the mail. A fraud alert to warn you about tonight .. Scammers are claiming to be from the State's toll system to get your money. They're sending out fake notices claiming you owe money on an unpaid toll. A St. Johns County woman says she received one of those letters. That's when she called us. Tim Pulliam is live tonight with more on this scam. 3 These letters are popping up all over the state, but they are not real and there are sign's you can look out for. 0-518-22phonerThis is the letter that Kristi Kluba received over the weekend from a company allegedly called "Toll Enforcement." The note claims she failed to pay a $7 toll fine.The penalty: $57 due immediately payable áonlyá through cashier's check or money order.Kristi Kluba/Received Fake Toll Bill 014319 I think a lot of people would just be tempted to say 'ah, let me just pay this" But not Kluba, she dug a little deeper into the information on the notice.Kristi Kluba/Received Fake Toll Bill 014209 My husband called on Monday morning to the offices that were listed on there and neither of the phone numbers actually worked.014257 That left us to believe that it was fraud.The Florida Turnpike says the note is a sham.Chad Huff a spokesperson for the Turnpike says sate officials caught wind of the fake letters Monday after receiving numerous calls into their Sun Pass call center.Huff says these letters have been popping up all over Florida. The Turnpike posted this warning on their website , and Huff explained what a legimate notice should look like.Chad Huff/Florida Turnpike 4:27 There's always a specific time of day stamp and location stamp on the invoice itself. So it will tell you when and where the transaction took place. Aside from that there will be a Florida Turnpike, FDOT, Sun Pass logos all over the document, as well as, a phone number that you can call and actually connect to an actually FDOT office. So far the Turnpike says they haven't heard of anyone falling for the scam. Tim, clearly Kristi and her husband SAW the red flag .. and flagged US down to spread the word... But what should other people do if they find this notice in their mailbox? Should they just throw it away or call police?
