3 More allegations of misconduct within the Flagler Beach Fire department. Earlier this year ...the department fired a number of firefighters for drinking on the job. And controversy prompted the previous chief to be fired as well. Now Channel 4's Scott Johnson joins us with details of why the new chief is in legal trouble of his own. 3 3 00-1027-391:24-1:311:38 it looked like a normal day at this flagler beach fire station... but it certainly wa sn't as the department potentially loses another chief. This time it's chief Bobby Pace , who's been put on administrative leave and is now facing criminal charges for obstructing a law enforcement officer. This isn't welcome news to residents of the small town who already saw multiple firings in the department a few months ago due to firefighters drinking and then responding to a fire. NANCY BROSCHE/FLAGLER BEACH RESIDENT 9:22:19 - I don't know what the mentality is. Seems to be a lot of cover ups of what they do. Seems to be going on awhile. Just like the ordeal during christmas with them drinking on the job.So makes you wonder what exactly is going on.Pace is accused of falsifying documents of how much work an employee at the fire station who was on parole had completed. He's also charged with destroying videotapes that showed how many hours that employee had worked.Pace had been put in this position as chief after the controversy earlier this year when the previous chief was fired.I contacted city hall about this... the city manager wouldn't go on camera simply giving me a terse statement ... "acting chief Pace has been placed on administrative leave and will remain there until this is resolved. Period."Sarah and Larry Kerr have lived in Flagler beach since the late 90's and they think the department as a whole should merge with flagler county fire. SARAH KERR/FLAGLER BEACH RESIDENT 9:1935 - I personally think we should put the fire department in the county, that would make more sense.LARRY KERR/FLAGLER BEACH RESIDENT 9:19:55 - if we were under the county I think that would save a significant amount of money and that would have the leadership needed to protect us as needs to be protected, so I think that's what needs to be done. 3 Scott, any idea how this investigation into the chief started?
