A scandal at Flagler College has the school searching for a new Vice President. They say he EXAGGERATED data, in order to boost the school's image. 3 Good evening. The accusations against former Vice President Marc Williar come after an internal investigation. He resigned last Friday, after being accused of changing incoming freshmen's test scores, G-P-A's and class rankings -- to work more in the school's favor. Based on that false information, the U-S News and World Report ranked Flagler College as the 8th BEST regional college in the South. This is a look at the Flagler College website, where they've recently taken down that report, in an effort to make things right. Channel 4's Chris Parenteau spoke to the President of the college this afternoon and is joining us now from our newsroom... Chris what did you learn? 3 3 3 President William Abare said that he has known Williar since he was working in the admissions office and Williar was a student in the 1970's. Williiar has been the vice president of enrollment for several years.Abare says that nobody had any reason to believe that something like this was going on, and that it was discovered by accident. 3 08-1437-431:29-1:351:38- 1:44SOT 11:13:20 There was no reason for him to do this. His job did not depend on students having a certain SAT score of whatever it may have been. VO Abare says that a faculty member came across the falsified numbers last week , while trying to verify scores for placement in freshman level courses. After a brief investigation, he confronted Williar about the numbers. He says Williar admitted to changing the numbers and resigned last Friday. Abare though says that Williar acted alone, and it won't impact any students. SOT 11:04:57 we know when the schedules were established for the fall semester we know that the placements were placed on accurate data that were in the student's individual files so the placement was not affected at all VO According to Abare, Williar admitted to doctoring the numbers for four years, from 2010 until 2013. In 2013, the U.S. News and World Report ranked Flagler as the 8th best college in the South. Abare says that will change, but hopefully not much. He ways the school is still a great place to study. SOT 11:07:39- our services here are second to none so you know there are a lot of positives this is an unfortunate negative that has been created by a single individual who acted alone VO On campus, it was the topic of conversation. Students told me that an email was sent out by the school, letting them know what had happened. Most were surprised by what happened, but are confident that it won't affect the school too much. SOT Javier Cappas 18:12 I don't think it's a reflection of all the college. It's a small amount that was part of it, so I don't see it affecting my future. SOT Raisa Montella 18:40 It's disappointing to us because we have such a high standard at the school, it's such a great school. To have something like this is disappointing. Things happen, the person responsibly resigned, and they are trying to get it fixed now. 3 get it fixed now. 3 left a message for Marc Williar, but as of now, I haven't heard back from him. President Abare says the college will now begin a nationwide search for a new Vice President of enrollment, but there is no timetable on when they hope to make a hire. 3 Chris, did President Abare say how this could have been going on for four years without anybody noticing?ANSWE R: He said that there were no warning signs that this was going on. He said the class profile for the last 15 years has remained pretty consistent. He was scheduled to meet with the school's IT department this afternoon to put more safeguards into place to make sure something like this never happens again.
