3 One year later..and still no new arrest in the murder of a 67 year old St Johns County waitress. Barbara Parchem's remains were found in a remote wooded area in northern Flagler County. Investigators say she was shot to death. Tonight a close friend of Parchem's wants to know why the investigation is taking so long. Detective Jermey Russell with St. Johns County Sheriffs Office says they are slowly getting closer to making an arrest4609 There is still evidence that is being processed in private labs and other labs in the state of Florida, so the case is continuing to move forward and I would like to think that we are closer to moving the case forward to a prosecutionRusse ll says because the investigation is still active, he would not explain what the new evidence is .But he did say that parchem's daughter - lilly chavez - remains a person of interest.Last May, Investigators arrested Chavez and charged her with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon -- after seizing items from her home, That arrest is not connected to this case , but Chevez's attorney says the negative publicity is hurting his client.Thomas Cushman/Attorney 010504 Maybe they should stop making statements because it doesn't advance this at all, but it does affect the person who has not been charged. 3 Cushman says Chavez has suffered greatly from being labeled a person of interest.She's having trouble finding a job.Detectives say they still need people to come forward if they have information.
