3 We're learning BRAND NEW DETAILS on what caused a controlled burn on the Northside to burn OUT of CONTROL. It happened three months ago.. But in a NEW report by the Florida Parks Service -- officials say the crew controlling the burn lacked sufficient experience.... and poor weather conditions contributed ... You may remember nearly 400 acres of Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve caught fire. Channel 4's Tim Pulliam is learning who is NOW being held accountable. He joins us live from the northside...Tim? 3 3 3 3 0044-53 Jimmy Wood/neighbor 034604-06 I could see smoke but I could not see flames.An intense moment for Jimmy Wood to see outside his home in Black Hammock Island -- This prescribed burn near his home at Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State park quickly turned into a raging wildfire.The Florida State Parks conducted an internal investigation to see how the fire got out of control so quickly.In this After Action Review, officials say the 9 person crew experience was up to par with handling this particular burn. The weather changed significantly after what was originally forecast by the Florida Forest Service.And certain polices were not followed properly like touring the burn zones before light them on fire.Jimmy Wood/Neighbor 034356-4403 That's a big concern..because we could have lost houses..we could have lost lives--without preparation and I assumed they did have it.The report says the weather conditions for burning went down dramatically that afternoon after the Forest Service reviewed the forecast earlier in the day and declared it was OK to burn. the fire did not come dangerously close to any homes and no one was hurt.But neighbors and legislators who represent Pumpkin Hill say someone should be held responsible.In a statement Senator Aaron Bean says Aaron Bean/ Senator District 4 "It raises great concern of what transpired at pumpkin hill.. We have to find out what happened and why the procedures were not followed and hold someone accountable."
