In less than one day, police say SEVEN people have been shot at local nightclubs, and at least one person has died. Police do NOT believe the two shootings are connected. The most recent one was early this morning at the Lava Nightclub in Arlington. Police say three people were hit. Before that, they say shots broke out yesterday, at the "Fat Kat Bar and Lounge" in Murray Hill. One person was killed... 5 others were hospitalized. News of this shooting has sparked old concerns from people who live nearby and remember ANOTHER shooting that happened at this same club, about a decade ago. They told Channel 4's Elizabeth Campbell, they want the club shutdown. Elizabeth joins us now live in studio ... 3 3 3 It was amazing the number of people I talked to who say something HAS to be done about this troublesome nightclub. Aside from this weekend's shootings, one local woman says the people who go to Fat Kat cause problems every single weekend. She says unfortunately people who live around the area aren't surprised by this deadly shooting. 3 SOT - 3815 when you let a large group of people just keep on with partying that late at night its just something waiting to happenTRACK - Joan Bosh works in Murray Hill AND has rental property just blocks from Fat Kat -- the nightclub where 5 people were shot this weekend -- killing one and leaving another in critical condition. Bosh says her tenants won't leave their homes on Saturday nights because of situations like Sunday morning's.SOT - 3827 theyre afraid to say anything to them because theyve been taunted so fear for our life i dont know if thats the right word but its definitely a fear of not being able to go outside when you want toTRACK - I couldn't get ahold of the owner of Fat Kat and due to Monday being a federal holiday -- Code Enforcement was closed -- so I wasn't able to find out what kind of license the club has and how long they have been in business.People in the area are wondering why there were around 200 people at the club when the shooting happened around 4 a.m. Sunday -- Our crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said as long as the club stops serving alcohol at 2, they can stay open as long as they want.Debra Cochran lives behind the club -- and says she had to get new windows installed that would block the loud music. She says she won't feel safe until the club is closed. SOT - 3103 thats just what they need to do close this club so that it can be peaceful over here and nobody has to worry about shootings people getting hurt beat up 3 I reached out to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for any information on the shooting including the names of the people involved, but its a federal holiday so i didn't hear back from them. We also just learned the Black Panther Party and other groups will be demonstrating outside of Fat Kat on Wednesday evening -- asking that the establishment close its doors. 3 Elizabeth, if this place has had so many problems, what WOULD it take for it to shut down?ANSWER - Ken Jefferson says JSO has nothing to do with the closing of this establishment. He says it's all in the hands of the owner -- that as long as they're following all rules -- they can stay open as long as they want. So he says really the only way the club would close -- is pressure from the community.
