3 Toll roads could be coming to Jacksonville's Southside. A project is looking at adding four lanes on the 295-East Beltway between J-T-B and State Road 9B. Channel 4's Scott Johnson was at a public meeting on this issue tonight. He joins us live ... Scott 3 3 the lanes would be voluntary... you take them if you don't want to sit in traffic...and you pay a toll. But it's just an early idea right now... a long way until it's approved. 3 00-0614-2057-1'03 This is the section of 295 being looked at to add toll roads. The department of transportation is considering adding four lanes total...two each way that would be express lanes with tolls if you're ever backed up.JIM KNIGHT/D.O.T. PROJECT ENGINEER 3:43:18 - if you're driving, the charge to use express lane will be displayed at entrance and you can make decision to stay in the free lanes or use express lanes and pay a toll tonight the DOT unveiled this plan to the public at UNF to find out if this is something they support.3:45:48 - I don't like the idea of paying for it, but I understand there's a lot of traffic so 3:49:24 - I really think around rush hour ... around the buckman. A lot of people going into orange park and coming out of orange park. in talking with people familiar with toll roads in south florida they didn't mind adding toll lanes.FRED ISAAC/SUPPORTS PROJECT 3:48:45 - it really is a needed project, if you get involved in sunpass project in other parts of florida it really is cool. It's fast, very safe and allows for movement of traffic. the lanes would go on the 295 east beltway between JTB and the new road 9B .... and if it happens you would use the sunpass... which is common on tollroads in south and central florida. 3:44:09 - miami has some express lanes. They're being considered in all major metro areas of the state right now. 3 Scott, we know you said this project is in its early stages right now, but if it gets the go ahead when do they hope to start construction?
