been following today...this train derailment just underneath the Acosta Bridge. It happened before daybreak, and crews are STILL out there cleaning up the mess. Nine cars from a Norfolk Southern train ran off the track early this morning. It caused a small amount of Ethanol to leak. Fortunately, no one was hurt... but cleanup has been going on all day. Emergency crews been out here since 430 this morning cleaning up the site You can see that one train car on its side Its holding 28,000 gallons of ethanol but only 5 gallon seeped out onto the ground Emergency crews say this accident is minor but it still takes time to clean up this mess. The rail car had to be drained and cranes will lifted it back in place this is being done by the railroad company but the fire department is still standing by Tom Francis time 7:25:25 Foam protection laying down a blanket the foam. In the vicinity of the actual railcar and other issues similar to that. With lines that are set up with nozzles and so on just in case.About 200 employees from the Times Union building were evacuated other offices nearby.The cause of the derailment isn't known. that investigation continues. the company Norfolk Southern issued this statementThey are bringing in special equipment to re-rail the rail cars.Once all the cars are off the tracks, Norfolk Southern will make necessary track repairs. They anticipate reopening the rail line later this evening.
