Tropical Storm Helene has formed off the eastern coast of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
In the NHC's 4:30 p.m. advisory Friday, Helene was about 90 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan, Mexico and 160 miles southeast of Tampico, Mexico. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and was moving northwest at 7 mph. This motion is expected to continue for the next day or so, the NHC said.
Some strengthening is possible before Helene moves inland, with weakening once it makes landfall.
A tropical storm warning has been issued for the coast of Mexico from Barra de Naulta to La Cruz.
