The other big story we're following ... New information on this dramatic rescue caught on camera in Daytona Beach. Beach Patrol and several strangers jump into action to save a mother and her children, who were inside this van... as it drifted into the ocean. We know the mother is in the hospital, right now ....and the three children are in D-C-F custody. What's unknown, is WHY the van ended up in the water in the first place. Channel 4's Marques White has been following this story and joins us now... Marques? 3 . 3 Rob, Joy--- the Volusia County Sheriff's office just wrapped up a news conference on what they're learning about the mother, and the incident. Investigators have identified the mother as Ebony Wilkerson of South Carolina. They've confirmed the mother is pregnant and they're still waiting to interview her. Beach Patrol officials say she was driving along the Silver Beach Approach, when she started driving toward the Atlantic Ocean... and didn't stop. 3 00-0616-211:10-1:131:48-1:54an s-u-v submerged in the water -- drifting deeper and deeper with a mother and her three kids inside -- ages 5 7 and 10. a witness says three bystanders quikcly jumped into action.The beach safety director says the waves were strong -- the water was cold -- and the mother entered the beach just like anyone would on any given day.The Volusia County Sheriff says the mother was going on an abuse shelter -- and that she was afraid to tell officers that -- because she was worried her ex would find out where she was going. He also says the mother hasn't been interviewed yet -- and that a search warrant has been obtained to search the vehicle. Investigators are working to see if criminal charges are appropropriate or if this is a medical issueSheriff Ben Johnson with the Volusia County Sheriff's Dept.also says there's nothing to indicate that the mother was homicidal or suicidal. D-C-F is also looking into any past cases of child neglect or abuse.All three children are now in DCF's custody.Wilkerson is under-going a mental health evaluation.Beach Patrol officers say Wilkerson was out of the van in the water -- acting inappropriately -- and not answering questions.They say she paid the toll to park -- and drive on the beach. 3 Marques - did Marques - did the rescuers run Marques - did the rescuers run into any problems trying get the mother and her three children out of the van? Rob - the toddler was in a booster seat - and one of the rescuers was stuck for a moment. All four were taken to the hospital -- and right now they're doing OK.
