Alligator takes 'chunk' out of man's leg at Florida attraction

Attack happened at Forever Florida near Kenansville

KENANSVILLE, Fla. – An Osceola County alligator attack left a man with injuries requiring surgery, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.

The FWC said the man was bitten by a large alligator in the left thigh while removing hyacinths in a pond near Kenansville last Tuesday afternoon. It happened at Forever Florida, a central Florida attraction known for its zip line as well as camping, horseback riding and its wildlife.

But officials said the alligator wasn't in Forever Florida's care.

According to FWC, the gator took out "a chunk" of Sergio Hernandez's leg. Hernandez, 46, works for Forever Florida.

He was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment.

When trappers arrived, they found two alligators, one measuring 11 feet and the second measuring 8.5 feet. Both were removed.
