Fitzgerald Captures Walter Camp Award

POSTED: Thursday, December 11,

Pittsburgh star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has been named the Walter Camp Player of the Year, presented annually to the nation's top college football player by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Fitzgerald, only a sophomore, caught 87 balls for 1,595 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Panthers (8-4). He had a touchdown reception in all 12 games to tie Randy Moss' single-season record, and in a record-setting 18 straight games dating back to last season.

He is one of the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which will be presented Saturday night. Fitzgerald is also in the running for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top wide receiver.

Penn State running back Larry Johnson won the Walter Camp Award last season.
