Ever heard of a virtual race?

What is a virtual race?

It's a new trend that gives people who want to contribute the opportunity to support a worthy cause even if they aren't athletes or who don't want to face the crowds associated with participating in a particular race, at a particular time.

A virtual race allows you to complete a race, in this case it's a 5K or 3 mile race, anytime, anywhere, at your own pace, and in whatever way you want.  You can walk, run, or jog.  Participants control when, where and how they participate.

There is no hassle and no travel expense and the virtual race is completed whenever the participant's schedule allows.  They can run or walk a little bit each day or do the entire distance at one time.  Virtual runs also offer registrants a great way to challenge friends and family in remote locations from anywhere in the world.

Nemours is hosting a virtual race this week. It's called the Everybody Play 5K.  In addition to helping raise money for the children's clinic, which is based in Jacksonville, the run also encourages adults and children to adopt healthy habits. Nemours says the money raised will support vital programs and services used to restore and improve the lives of sick and injured children in our communities.

The registration fee is $25 and includes a medal for participation and a SWAG bag of goodies. The deadline to register is Friday. To learn more click here.
