Former Harlem Globetrotters host youth basketball camp

Michael Douglas Youth Foundation, Harlem Legends host camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Michael Douglas Youth Foundation and the Harlem Legends are hosting their annual "Shoot for the Stars" youth basketball camp this week at the Schindler Drive Baptist Church Community Center.

Harlem Legends was founded by former Harlem Globetrotter Michael Douglas as part of his foundation.

The camp is hosted by Douglas and his former Globetrotter teammate Larry "Shorty" Coleman.

Douglas' foundation is committed to helping provide positive and educational activities for communities and organizations around the globe.

Children ages 7-14 will participate in basketball tournaments, win awards and graduate from the Michael Douglas Youth Foundation and the Harlem Legends "Shoot for the Stars" camp.

Douglas hopes the camp will give children a unique learning experience geared toward basketball players of all skill levels, including:

  • Keep family values above the rim.
  • Shoot down discouragement.
  • Rebound from poor self-esteem.
  • Handle peer pressure.

The tournament, awards ceremony and graduation will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Parents, guardians and the public are invited to the ceremony.

Children can have their pictures taken with and get autographs from with the former Harlem Globetrotters.
