Man finishes 45-hour motorcycle ride in Jax

Ride benefits Friends of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Phil Challinor completes a 45-hour motorcycle ride from San Diego to Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A California man is paying it forward in Jacksonville after a nonprofit group offered its help when his premature daughter was born.

Phil Challinor is a fire captain in Fulston, Calif. He finished his 45-hour motorcycle ride from San Diego to Jacksonville, all to help raise funds for the group Friends of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).

In 2010, the group donated a motor home to Challinor so he could be closer to the hospital while his daughter was being treated.

Now he's spreading the word about Friends of NICU all the way to the Wolfson Children's Hospital.

"Kind of connecting the dots from West Coast to East Coast shows that no matter where you are in the country, no matter what, it could happen to anybody," Challinor said.

As part of Challinor's ride, he exchanged gifts between a newborn care unit in California and the newborn care unit at Wolfson.
