Wolfson holds cake lighting

Hospital kicks off start of events to celebrate lives of past and present patients

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the fourth year in a row, Wolfson Children's Hospital will celebrate the lives of their current and former patients at the One to Grow On and 55 Mile Ultra Marathon.

The kickoff to the celebration is taking place Tuesday morning with the lighting of 55 candles on a colossal birthday cake in the circular rotunda driveway in front of Wolfson Children's Hospital and Baptist Medical Center.

Each candle represents one of the Wolfson 55, comprised of 53 past and present patients of Wolfson, along with the hospital's mascot.

The Wolfson 55 children and their families will be honored Tuesday morning to celebrate their lives and their courageous fight against life-changing and, in some cases, life-limiting illness.

The One to Grow On cake lighting ceremony is from 6 - 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Cake will stay up in the Rotunda until the February 9th One to Grow On Event and Ultra Marathon, where it will then be displayed at the Jacksonville Landing.

There will also be a special guest at Tuesday morning's event. Six-year-old Ellie is fighting a brain tumor and is a frequent guest of Channel 4.

Ellie is a patient of Wolfson and will light the cake to represent the Wolfson 55 and the other 10,000 plus kids the hospital serves each year.

After the kickoff on Tuesday morning, the next event is the day long Telethon for Wolfson on Tuesday, January 29th from 6 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.

The 55 Mile Run and Birthday Party will then be at the Landing on February 9th and Channel 4's own Richard Nunn is running the 55 mile event again.
