Before you fly your flag this Fourth of July, make sure your flag is fit to fly.
When flying the American flag, people should respect certain codes. These state that the U.S. flag should be treated as a living thing, therefore it should be well taken care of.
If your flag becomes torn or damaged it is considered to be disrespectful to the U.S. and the flag should be replaced.
U.S. flags with tears or obvious damage shouldn’t be flown. Instead, those flags should be properly disposed of. To make sure your flag is properly disposed, it is recommended that you take your worn flags to a local American Legion or VFW post and they will burn it in a yearly flag-burning ceremony.
