Mowz: The Uber of lawn care

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mowz is being hailed the Uber of lawn care. Need a cut? Your grass could be looking good within 24 hours. Six months ago, R.E.C Lawn Care signed on to be a provider for Mowz and it's changed their business.

Lee McCall with R.E.C. said, "Waite a bit. We've gone from one to two yards a day to 10 a day."

Wednesday, Jim Mackin's yard is one of several on the schedule.

"Sunday night rolls around and I still have tall grass and I don't have to do it now," Mackin said.

He set it all up the day before on his phone with the Mowz app.

"You go through a couple of settings and enter information, select lawn size, how tall is the grass and things like that so they can gauge pricing," Mackin explained.

It was $33 for the cut, but priceless to Mackin since he was able to spend his time working instead of mowing.

"The thing I really like as a professional and a software developer, rather than being lazy, my time is better served searching other opportunities rather than mowing my grass," he said.

This on-demand lawn care is available in 30 different cities and growing. You get to see the price before you confirm and they don't charge your credit card until the job is complete. When they are finished, they take a picture to let you know the job is complete, which is especially helpful if you are out of town.

Mackin said, "I think they did a great job, the yard looks great, they cleaned up after themselves, and again, like the Uber model you have a chance to rate them and tell about my overall experience."

Plus, you can see those ratings for the lawn service before they perform the job.  Lawn companies who want to sign up need three things; an iPhone or Android phone, a minimum of $1,000,000 in general liability insurance and professional grade equipment.
