Winn-Dixie recalls Creative Snack mixes over health risk

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometime fatal infections

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Winn-Dixie is voluntarily recalling its Creative Snacks Brain Food and Heart Smart mixes from three Jacksonville area stores, because the sunflower seeds in the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall was initiated immediately after Southeastern Grocers was informed by Destiny Organics, the distributor of the mixes, that the sunflowers in the Creative Snack Mixes had the potential presence of Listeria Monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young
children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Winn-Dixie hasn't received any reports of illness associated with the products, and all affected products in the stores have been discarded. They were sold between April 6 and May 5, with UPC codes 81651201302 and 81651201301.

They were sold in the bulk bins of the natural and organic sections at the following locations:

Winn-Dixie, 1545 County Rd 220, Fleming Island
Winn-Dixie, 11701-10 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville
Winn-Dixie, 1520 W. University Blvd, Jacksonville

Consumers who have this product at home should discard it and return to the store for a full refund.

To receive the refund, customers may present proof of purchase through a receipt or the product packaging label.
