Veterans warned about scam

Callers trying to reach VA National Call Center, GI Bill Call Center targeted

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.Veterans Affairs is issuing a warning to veterans trying to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs National Call Center or the the GI Bill Call Center. 

A company has established two fake numbers that are off from the legitimate numbers by just one digit. So, if you misdial either call center, you may fall victim to this scam.

For those who misdial, the person answering the phone may offer a gift card and try to obtain the caller's credit card information and/or other personal information.  Once that's done, they may actually transfer callers to the correct VA number.

The CORRECT numbers are:

VA National Call Center: 800-827-1000
VA GI Bill Call Center: 888-442-4551

The numbers to AVOID are:
800-872-1000 and 888-442-4511
