Survey: Stanton, Paxon Among Nation's Top High Schools

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two of the top three high schools in the nation are in Jacksonville, according to a study just released in Newsweek magazine.
According to the cover story in this week's edition, Stanton College Preparatory School and Paxon Senior High rank second and third, respectively. International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was the only school to score higher on the Newsweek survey.
Public schools are ranked by a formula called the Challenge Index -- the number of advanced placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students divided by the number of graduating seniors.
Stanton and Paxon were ranked among more than 750 schools in United States. Two other Duval County Schools -- Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (511) and Mandarin High (733) -- were on the list. Two Gainesville schools -- Eastside (44) and Buchholz (72) -- were among dozens of other Florida schools that were highly.
