Sandalwood High On Lockdown After Numerous Fights

POSTED: Wednesday, September 14, 2005

Sandalwood High School will be locked down for a fourth day Thursday, after fights led to a rash of arrests.

Police said 27 students have been arrested on campus since school began on Aug. 8 -- 20 of those in the last two weeks.

An 18-year-old student suffered a seizure after a beating last week and was hospitalized.

Sandalwood Principal Victoria Schultz told Channel 4 that the school is on a heightened security level and has been under lockdown since Monday. Schultz said she is in the process of hiring two more security guards and police vow to arrest any student who starts a fight.

Anyone knowing of problems at Sandalwood or any Duval County public school is urged to report it, which can be done anonymously by calling (877) 723-2728.
