Developer Kitson named to university system board

Syd Kitson, a developer from West Palm Beach, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the state university system's Board of Governors.

Kitson, 58, who is the CEO of Kitson & Partners, was appointed to fill a vacancy left when Mori Hosseini was appointed to the University of Florida's board of trustees this year.

Kitson's term, along with the terms of four other Board of Governors members, Richard Beard, Dean Colson, Daniel Doyle Jr. and Patricia Frost, expire early next month.

The Board of Governors oversees the 12 state universities.

Kitson, who was also recently named chairman of the Florida Chamber of Commerce's board of directors, has a bachelor's degree in economics from Wake Forest University and serves as a member of the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation.

Kitson and his company are involved in a number of development projects in the state, with his largest venture the 18,000-acre Babcock Ranch planned community in Southwest Florida.
