JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Episcopal School of Jacksonville announced Friday that Charles Zimmer will remain head of school through June 2015.
"Charley's many strong attributes set a high standard against which any candidate for head of school must be evaluated, including his familiarity with the school, his leadership abilities, and how beloved he is by the Episcopal community," Board of Trustees Chairman Rob Clements said.
Zimmer replaced Dale Regan, the longtime head of school who was killed by a disgruntled teacher who was fired last year.
Clements said the board is excited about Zimmer's plans for the school as it continues to build for the future and approach the celebration of its 50th anniversary. He said Zimmer has chosen particular areas to focus on during his tenure, which include the following:
- A comprehensive look at athletic facilities and new plans for a capital campaign to support them;
- A review of both the school's five-year strategic plan and campus master plan;
- A search for "alternate sources" of revenue for the school;
- An investigation of curriculum with an eye toward ensuring its relevancy in today's ever-changing educational world.
When the search resumes next year, the search committee will communicate as appropriate the necessary and thorough steps that will be taken to ensure the school identifies a very select group of candidates for this position, the school said in a news release.
"The board is confident that there is no better outcome for Episcopal than to have Charley Zimmer continue for another two years in his role as head of school," Clements said. "We look forward to working with him to achieve his exciting vision for the school's future."
A new head of school search for Episcopal will begin in the spring of 2014.
