'Hatfields and McCoys' makes ratings history
Miniseries draws large audience
The History Channel didn't have to battle for viewers on Monday night, thanks to the feuding "Hatfields & McCoys."
The first part of the miniseries came out swinging Monday, with 13.9 million viewers tuning in.
The network expressed its appreciation for the show of support on Twitter, noting that the huge turnout made it "the No. 1 non-sports telecast in ad-supported cable history!"
In a statement on TVLine, the network's president, Nancy Dubuc, said that the History Channel has "[owned] historical drama ... with guns a-blazin'!"
The network "couldn't be more proud of the entire cast and crew," Dubuc continued, "from Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Mare Winningham, Powers Boothe, Tom Berenger, and everyone involved in truly making history!"
Part two of the miniseries aired Tuesday night.
