Professor Wrestling: 'Cyber Sunday' Results
Online Theme Features Orton, Batista
| Podcast: Episode 51 | |
Fans Pick Match Type: Boxing, Wrestling or Mixed Martial Arts
What Should Happen: The fans will pick the MMA option, the current king of ringed sports. Vince McMahon would dearly love to be as popular as MMA events these days, but that's another story. Here, the MMA option would be the right way to go, with Hardy getting a squash victory. That's what I'd like to see.
What Will Happen: It'll be MMA, with MVP getting the tainted victory.
WhatDid Happen: Matt Hardy was injured, so this turned into a U.S. title match with MVP facing Kane. Kane won by countout.
Challenge Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Fit Finlay
Fans Pick Match Type: Stretcher, Shillelagh On A Pole or No Disqualification
What Should Happen: The best match would be the shillelagh option, with Rey using Finlay's weapon against him. A no-DQ or stretcher match does nothing for me. Having something up high gets these two little guys further off their feet, which could be a good thing.
What Will Happen: The shillelagh will be up for grabs and Mysterio will grab it and win.
WhatDid Happen: It was a stretcher match, which Rey still won.
Challenge Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Umaga
Fans Pick Match Type: Street Fight, First Blood or Steel Cage
What Should Happen: This one has blood written all over it.
What Will Happen: Umaga will wear the crimson mask.
WhatDid Happen: Triple H beat Umaga in a street fight.
ECW Championship Match: C.M. Punk (c) vs. ???
Fans Pick Opponent: Big Daddy V, The Miz or John Morrison
What Should Happen: The only reasonable pick here is Morrison, with The Miz and BDV clearly in over their heads. Man, this ECW brand is in rough shape. Morrison is a quality performer, but the other two are way out of place.
What Will Happen: The fans will pick Morrison, who will take back the ECW belt.
WhatDid Happen: Fans picked The Miz, presumably to see him get beat up. Punk beat him, and retained his belt.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Batista (c) vs. Undertaker
Fans Pick Referee: Steve Austin, Mick Foley or JBL
What Should Happen: JBL is really the only one with recent history with these two, where his interference would actually mean something. He should be the pick, but won't be.
What Will Happen: Austin will be your referee. Batista will be your winner.
WhatDid Happen: Austin was your referee and Batista was your winner.
WWE Champtionship Match: Randy Orton (c) vs. ???
Fans Pick Opponent: Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy or Mr. Kennedy
What Should Happen: I may be in the minority, but I'd rather see Hardy take on Orton over the other two. It's something I haven't seen in a PPV setting, and it could be truly different.
What Will Happen: Michaels will be the pick, but he won't beat Orton.
WhatDid Happen: Orton kept his belt after getting disqualified.
That'll do it. For the record, there were a total of 12 predictions to make, and I was correct seven times. Once again, my amazingness comes through. It's also amazing that the "Old School, New School" podcast is almost a year old. EPISODE 51 can be downloaded right here. This week, fright is the key phrase as we head into Halloween – as Dr. Mike Lano describes a truly ghastly wrestling weekend in San Francisco. Also, George "The Authority" Schire checks in with his terrorizing tale of a behemoth named Ox Baker! Download it if you dare. That's it!Class is dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting, hailing from Parts Unknown. Got a question, comment, complaint?
