15-year-old wins title, sings national anthem

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Beyond the fireworks in the sky, there was drama Saturday night in the final round of the "Oh Say Can You Sing" competition during Channel 4's prime-time broadcast.

Chara Jasmine, Cassidy Kinsman and Eric Witherspoon performed during WJXT's Fireworks Spectacular program, then the viewing audience voted 15-year-old Kinsman the winner by a margin of 800 votes.

"I was excited, and then I was in shock at the same time," she said.

Kinsman won a $500 prize as the winner, then sang the national anthem on the broadcast.

THE PERFORMANCES: Chara Jasmine | Cassidy Kinsman | Eric Witherspoon

Because there was a technical issue with the background music during the live performance on the deck of River City Brewing Company, WJXT and sponsor of the contest, Family Practice Associates of Orange Park, decided to award $500 to Jasmine and Witherspoon, as well.

The three had auditioned along with 124 others back in May and survived two previous cuts to make Saturday night's finals.
