The "Anchorman 2" crew are welcoming a new co-star aboard the anticipated sequel: Kristen Wiig.
"Kristen Wiig is officially on board for Anchorman 2. Couldn't be more excited," said director/co-screenwriter Adam McKay on his Facebook page, adding on his Twitter account, "Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!"
Christina Applegate chimed in on Twitter, "So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."
Wiig joins Will Ferrell, who's returning as the unintentionally hilarious newsman Ron Burgundy for the follow-up to 2004's hit comedy, as well as Applegate, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell. Ferrell personally revealed the news on "Conan" last spring, wearing Ron Burgundy's signature leisure suit and mustache.
"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" is slated to open Dec. 20. McKay suggested that we're in for "whole song sequences" in the sequel, while Carell is keeping his fingers crossed that no one's changed over the past nine years.
"I think it's such a great ensemble piece that I would hope that our roles are the same as they were the first time around," he said. "The storyline is going to be different, but I hope the people in it are exactly the same."
