Country singer Randy Travis has once again had a mishap with the law.

A few weeks after being arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, Travis was cited in a simple assault case Thursday after a disturbance with another man outside the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.

The citation falls under a class "C" simple assault, which in Texas ranges from an unwanted touch -- i.e., an undesired tap on the shoulder -- to a "strike that does not cause pain or injury," Plano police said in a statement. The police described it as relatively minor, saying it was on the same level as a speeding ticket.

Police told CNN that it responded to the incident involving Travis and two others around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Police said there had been a verbal disagreement between an estranged husband and wife, who was described as an acquaintance of the singer's, and Travis allegedly intervened.

No one was arrested, and only Travis was cited, police said.

Earlier Friday, TMZ described Travis as appearing to be "extremely intoxicated" and believed to be the "primary aggressor."

But police said there was nothing in the report to indicate anyone was intoxicated at the scene.

CNN is pursuing comment from Travis' reps.
