Air show set to fly at Jax Beach this weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's the time of year again for the Jacksonville Sea and Sky Spectacular.

The free family-friendly event at Jacksonville Beach will feature the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

The last time the event was at Jacksonville's beaches, 400,000 people flocked to the coast to enjoy the show. This year will be the sixth time the beaches have hosted the military event.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown says he hopes the show will boost the beaches economy over the weekend.

"Really patronize our local restaurants and even come out for the weekend and stay in our hotels," he said. "I think it's a great thing for the economy, but also it's a good way for people to celebrate what we really have in this great city."

Parking at the beach is pretty limited, so the solution for some may be a shuttle bus.

Parking is $20 per vehicle, while the shuttle to the event is free. Shuttle service will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and will run until 6 p.m.

The bus will pick people up from the TPC Sawgrass lots located west of State Road A1A on Palm Valley Road. There will also be various streets and parking lots closed, those attending are encouraged to take the shuttle.

"It's a great opportunity for family to come out and enjoy themselves and really have a good time on our beautiful beaches," Brown said.

The fun begins at 9 a.m. Friday for local schools to use the event as a field trip, but the real deal starts Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and lasts until 3:30 p.m.

Before arriving, beachgoers should know there are several items they cannot bring to the show, including coolers, picnic baskets, food, beverages, pets, rollerblades or skates, and bicycles.
