Jacksonville Suns vs. Tennessee Smokies
You can see the hometown baseball team in action this weekend at the Baseball Grounds. They will take on the Tennessee Smokies through Monday. Friday will be Saved by the Bell’s Mr. Belding Appearance, 90’s Weekend and Throw Backed Night, Friday Family Fireworks and Ed Randall’s Bat For the Cure. Saturday is 90’s Weekend. There will be a post game concert by the Dave Matthews Tribute Band. Sunday is Sonn’s Family Sunday, Military Appreciation and Family Faith Day and Monday is Camp Day #1. “The Muppet Movie” Sing Along Screenings
WJCT and The Jacksonville Film Festival will host sing along screenings for the original “The Muppet Movie.” You will have three chances to sing along with the gang, meet PBS and other characters and get a fun bag. The first screening will be Friday at 4 p.m. at the Ponte Veda Concert Hall. The second and third screenings will be Saturday at the WJCT Studios on Festival Park Avenue. Those screenings will begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person and proceeds will benefit the Jacksonville Film Festival.
Movie and “Select-Your Seats” Night
The Jaguars will host the second annual Jaguars Movie Night on Friday. Come to Everbank Field to see the showing of “Friday Nights Light” and there will also be an opportunity for you to “test drive” available seats beginning at 6. The movie begins at 8. Seating space will be available on the field and in the south end zones. Fans can bring blankets and lawn chairs. There will be free parking in Lots C, D, J, and Gates 1 and 4 will be open.
“Change Your Fate “
You are invited to a special event for the opening of Disney’s Pixar Brave on Friday at the Carmike Cinemas Fleming Island 12. Starting at 4, there will be lads and ladies in kilts, Celtic music, pipes and drums and Highland Games.
Art Show
You can see the work from members of the club “Project Ability” on Friday. For the past four weeks, they have been in a workshop where they learned painting skills and completed 17 original paintings on canvas. These paintings will be on display at Absolute Americana Art Gallery on Friday. There will be an art show beginning at 5 p.m. It is a free event where individuals will show off their work and a silent auction will be held for those who want to purchase artwork.
Cosmic Concert
See how laser lights, high-def images, and digital sound all collide to create a Cosmic Concert. It will be held at MOSH Friday night. Tickets can be purchased at www.moshplanetarium.org or at the door. Tickets are $5 per person. Laser glasses costs $1
Saturday
Memorial Day 5K
The Florida Striders have rescheduled their Memorial Day 4K race to Saturday. The original event was canceled because of concerns about the weather. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at First Place Sports in Orange Park. Race begins at 8 a.m.
Jacksonville Sharks vs. Cleveland Gladiators
Sharks fans are going back to the 70’s on Saturday night. Join the Sharks as they take on the Cleveland Gladiators at the Veterans Memorial Arena. Game begins at 7 p.m.
Teen Battle of the Bands
The Jacksonville Public Library will host the 7th annual Teen Battle of the Bands on Saturday. This local contest gives teenagers a chance to perform their original work in front of a crowd. Six local bands of all musical genres will face off for a chance to win studio recording time and gift certificates. It will begin at 1 p.m. at the Main Library in the multi-purpose room on the conference center level. DJ Nick Fresh will host this year’s event.
Teen Financial Literacy Seminar
The St. Johns County Public Library System has partnered with the Florida Institute of Certificated Public Accountants to offer a free Teen Financial Literacy Series on Saturday. Teens will learn about budgeting, saving, personal investment and using credit wisely. Saturday’s seminar will be at the Main Library in St. Augustine. Class size is limited; contact the branch to register by calling 904-827-6940.
Advanced Disposal Job Fair
Advanced Disposal is hosting two job fairs on Saturday at both of its Clay and St. Johns County facilities. The company is looking for nine local drivers. Those interested must bring proof of a Class A or B commercial driver’s license and their current three-year motor vehicle record. The job fair begins at 8 a.m. and will last until noon. Character Breakfast at Jump! Zone
Jump!Zone of Orange Park and Whataburger will host a character breakfast on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The event will feature Jump Zone’s J! Frog and the Whataburger Superhero Whataguy. Admission is $10 for children and that includes breakfast, pictures with the characters, bouncing and a free game in the Cannonball Air Blaster. Adult admission is free, but parents may purchase breakfast for only $5 each. Jump!Zone is located at 1035 Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park.
Charity Father-Daughter Ball
Duval Ford will sponsor the second annual Charity Father-Daughter Ball. It will be held Saturday at the University Club beginning at 6 p.m. It will benefit the Florida Chapter of the ALS Association. Tickets can be purchased at any Duval dealership. They are $125 per double, and $55 per additional.
