Movie Review: 'Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales'

Johnny Deep maintains his beloved character, story loses its grip

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' (PG-13) is  two hours long and brings sea adventures back to the big screen.

Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)  is being hunted by Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), who had been living his morbid life in the Dead Zone, until he and his ghost crew escaped after an encounter with a misguided ship. Captain Salazar wants vengeance and his life back since he has been trapped as a ghost.  Along the way Jack Sparrow gains two allies, an astronomer and an eager sailor who've discovered clues to a treasure that can improve their lives.

For this fifth sea adventure, Sparrow maintains his humor, fights and creative ways of getting out of trouble.

The upside: This films begins strong with Jack Sparrow being chased by town authorities and it literally brings a house down. It's followed by a superb special effects ending and concludes the sequel successfully.

The downside: This adventure goes on about 30 minutes too long, as we know Sparrow's antics, and it becomes routine for about an hour.

Expect a strong beginning and end, while it drifts a little during the middle.

Overall, "Dead Men Tell No Tales" fits in with the first four films and concludes as a strong action/adventure flick.
