Movie review: 'The Birth of a Nation'

American story that highlights a dark time in country

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This movie is based on the true story of Nat Turner (Nate Parker), an enslaved preacher on a plantation in Virginia. Nat's slave owner, Samuel Turner, has Nat minister to the other slaves to keep them under control and dissolve the idea of a revolt. As Turner begins to minister to the slaves he sees the brutal treatment of the slaves and shifts from compliance to rebellion. Turner leads one of the largest rebellions in American history.
