Police Rope Wallaby Found Near Pool

UPDATED: 9:24 am EDT June 8, 2006

You might call it a small-scale, Aussie-style rodeo.

A police intern and a sergeant roped a wallaby in the back yard of a home Wednesday afternoon, Cincinnati teleivsion station WLWT reported.

A contractor working on the home apparently spotted the marsupial hanging out by a swimming pool.

After being lassoed, the wallaby apparently tried to get away by jumping into the pool.

"The animal tried to run from us twice," Sgt. Richard Bower said. "We tried to cut it off, then he tried to run back to the pool. We tried to converge on it again, but he jumped into the pool."

The animal didn't appeared to be injured, officials said, but a veterinarian checked it out before he was taken to the Redwolf Sanctuary.

Police said no one in the neighborhood knows who owns the wallaby.
