JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Mandy Ottesen is a unique exterminator  Her bug of choice: lice.

"I'm a mom, and anyone with small kids knows that head lice is a big problem," says Ottesen.

She opened Fresh Heads, a head lice treatment center, for families who have had enough.

"People have been trying to get rid of it for a month or so. The pesticides don't work, the bugs are resistant, parents are frustrated, kids are embarrassed," says Ottesen.

Fresh Heads offers North Florida and South Georgia's only professional head lice removal service.  The Loose Buster is an FDA approved device that looks a little like a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a hairdryer.  It blows out warm air to seek and destroy lice and their eggs.

"It's incredible. It kills everything. It's particularly effective with the nits, which is the biggest problem.  Nothing else kills the nit,s and so that's where most families run into trouble," says Ottesen.

The treatment costs $145 and takes about 30 minutes.

"Most parents will spend much more time on their house than they will on their head, and in reality, those bugs are living on their head. They're not crawling all over your house like you think they are," says Ottesen.

While the treatment isn't cheap, Mandy says for many parents, the relief of being lice-free is priceless.

"I'm also surprised at how much gratitude families show.  They're really desperate families are tired and they've spent a lot of money on things that don't work.  They're so grateful to finally be done with it," says Ottesen.

Ottesen warns if you use a blow dryer in the same way, you'd probably burn yourself because the her machine is not as hot as a hair dryer.  She points out you have to kill everything that's on the head or you might as well not have killed any at all.
