Event raises money for Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center

More than 400 guests attend fundraiser Tuesday evening

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.An "Evening of Celebration" was held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday to raise money for the Baptist MD Cancer Center -- Jacksonville's newest cancer treatment facility.

Baptist also celebrated a little more than a year since the center opened in October 2015 in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. In that time, the center has treated close to 4,000 patients.

The center has broken ground on a nine-story, 330,000-square-foot building that will expand the current center across the street down to Gary Street in San Marco.

Organizers said Tuesday's fundraiser will also help Baptist keep its focus on making the patients' experience as pleasant as possible.

"It will go to support what we're doing at Baptist MD Anderson growing endowment research. This support is not paid for with a traditional reimbursements system. The monies raised help us do those kinds of things by the way we're going to them but it really helps us because they are not paid for per se and it really will make a difference," said Hugh Greene, Baptist CEO.

The event was be held at the US Assure Club West at EverBank Field. More than 400 guests wore cocktail attire and the Chris Thomas Band performed. There was also food, drinks, and silent and live auctions.
