CDC educating hospital workers Thursday on Zika

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott announced Wednesday the Centers for Disease Control will host a conference call and webinar on Thursday with Florida hospital workers to educate them on the Zika virus.

The CDC will speak to them on how Zika is spread, its symptoms, treatments and proper precautions.

“Last week, I requested the CDC to conduct this call and I thank them for quickly scheduling it to ensure those on the front lines of helping patients with the Zika virus have the most up-to-date information to protect themselves and others," said Scott.  

The Florida Surgeon General said there are no new cases of the Zika virus in Florida. There are currently 16 reported cases, including one in St. Johns County.

All the cases are travel-related and none involve pregnant women.

The CDC sent 950 Zika antibody tests to Florida. The state currently has 1,425 tests to determine whether a person has ever been infected with the virus.
