Chicken dinner can help fight rare disease

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You can turn a dinner out into a helping hand in the fight against a rare disorder: Batten disease.

From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, the Chick-Fil-A at Butler Point Plaza on Philips Highway will donate 15 percent of its sales to Batten Disease Support and Research.

Batten disease an inherited disorder that attacks the brain cells of children and is progressive.

"There is no cure, there is no treatment," says Jennifer Medley, mother of Jake, who suffers from the disease. "The more people who know about it the more people are willing to help raise money."

You may eat in or drive through Friday night to help the cause, just make sure you tell the cashier, "I'm here for Jake."
