Easy ways to better health

Things you can do in 60 seconds or less

There are all sorts of things out there claiming to help you live longer, but are they really helping?  i have a few simple, but surprising things you can do in 60 seconds or less that experts say can lengthen your life.

Before you get out of bed, check your pulse.  A normal resting rate is 60 beats per minute.  One study found a rate of 90 or above triples a woman's risk of dying from heart disease.

If your heart rate is high, add some omega 3's to your diet.  Also pop some chromium.  Swallowing a capsule a day can help maintain proper blood sugar levels, which can help protect your body against type 2 diabetes.

Also, get on your feet.  According to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, people who sit four or more hours a day have a 50 percent greater risk of dying than those who sat less than two hours a day.

And don't forget to floss.  Keeping your mouth healthy is important to your overall health although the American Heart Association now says there's no conclusive, scientific evidence that periodontal disease causes or increases rates of cardiovascular diseases.

Finally, add an egg to your diet.  One egg has 13 percent of your daily protein requirement.  Eggs also have antioxidants that protect your eyes from macular degeneration.  The yolk has nutrients that can reduce inflammation in the brain.
