Health, wellness vendors connect with shoppers

First Coast Health & Wellness Expo at Avenues Mall through Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Most New Year's resolutions involve people trying to get healthier, which is also the goal of the First Coast Health and Lifestyle Expo going on this weekend at the Avenues Mall.

Dozens of providers are on hand to offer free testing, advice and information about programs that can help people be healthy.

"They are giving us information about thing's we have been living with," said another guest, Gary Turner. "The eye, things we don't know about, things we wouldn't think about and here they all are under one roof."

Hundreds filled the mall, stopping at the each table -- some looking for specific things, with others stopping by to see what was being offered.

"I'm a diabetic, so that was my interest in coming here," says Darlene Torres Navarro, one of the first to check out the booths on Saturday morning. "Also, with my age and my skin, I want to make sure I get different products that can help."

Turner said he came to the mall to shop, and was pleasantly surprised to find all the health and wellness providers.

"I went to the body mass index and did all that, so it's great," Tuner said. "You receive more information, because you can ask more questions and find out what the products are and what they do for you."

Venders like chiropractor Bruce Sambursky welcomed the opportunity to talk to people about potential problems and alert them to small issues before they become major ones.

"If you've ever had neck or back pain in the past, it causes a lot of problems in your everyday life," Sambursky says. " You can't stand; you can't sit; you can't drive."

The expo runs through 6 p.m. Saturday, then is open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Avenues Mall.
