FORREST CORNERS, Fla - More than 200 elementary school students in Marion County got sick with a norovirus-like infection.
About 230 students were absent and another 50 were sent home early on Friday from East Marion Elementary School. That was up from Thursday, when 115 students were absent and another 34 went home early.
Three teachers and three other staff members were also absent.
Marion County schools officials say that they can't recall so many people getting sick in such a short time span.
Custodians have wiped down every surface inside the school. The district also used special fogger-type decontamination devices in parts of the school to combat the virus.
