The Affordable Care Act has official gone into effect with the new year; millions of previously uninsured Americans can now have health insurance.
There are still a lot of problems with the system, in Jacksonville Channel 4 found a woman who still is struggling with the new system.
Channel 4 first introduced you to Dawn Constantin's story in October when she was struggling to sign up for the Affordable Care Act online.
Constantin was worried because her health care plan was slated to expire in December.
Jan. 1 means that many of the ACA's benefits take effect but, Constantin said she's still having problems and still where she was back in October.
"I've tried and they say do this and do that. I call and one person doesn't know what the other person is supposed to do," said Constantin. "Bunch of nonsense."
Constantin said the only progress she's seen in the past couple of months is that the website now works.
"Nerve wracking. Trying to figure out what to do and by the time you're supposed to sign up. You're out of luck. No insurance," said Constantin.
While many of the Act's provisions took effect Jan. 1, open enrollment for people to sign up was extended until March. Unlike Constantin, more than 2 million people successfully signed up.
Channel 4's Facebook fans are also speaking out about problems with the new insurance.
"We went to CVS to get a couple of prescriptions. The pharmacy tech told us that our prescription insurance wasn't registered with the CVS system," said one fan.
White House officials have said that they're still working with insurers to work out certain problems.
"I think they should take the red tape out and make the system better," said Constantin.
Constantin told Channel 4 that the State of Florida extended her plan for another year because of the problems with her coverage at the Federal level. She also said she was just in the hospital last week and received a $5,000 bill. If the state hadn't made that extension, she would have had to pay out of pocket.
