Saturday is drug take-back day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Law enforcement agencies across northeast Florida will accept used or old prescription drugs on Saturday at various collection sites.

The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, held in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which will be responsible for destruction of the drugs.

It is safer for you and the environment to have old prescriptions destroyed instead of flushing them down a drain or allowing them to fall into the wrong hands.

Expired or unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, herbal and veterinary medications. No sharp objects, bio hazards, aerosols or items with batteries will be accepted.

Last September, more than 488,395 pounds (244 tons) of prescription medications were collected at 5,263 locations.
