Get healthy before the first day of school

What's Going Around

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – As kids head back to school doctors are treating more highly contagious illnesses going around.

In Duval County doctors at CareSpot on Southside Boulevard are treating bronchitis, sinusitis, and strep throat.  Surprisingly doctors said they're still treating people with flu.  It's very late in the season so keep in mind that's still going around.

In Clay County doctors at CareSpot in Middleburg are treating a dry cough and colds.

In Nassau County at the CareSpot in Yulee they're treating strep throat, sinusitis, and bronchitis.

Finally in St. Johns County, Healing Arts Urgent Care hasn't been extremely busy.  But they're treating strep throat and upper respiratory infections.

Contagious illnesses are already going around and being sick is not the way you want your kids to start the school year.  Not only for them but because it can make other kids sick.  We talked with Dr. Perrin from CareSpot about the types of conditions they treat at the beginning of the school year.  He said a lot of upper respiratory infections.  He suggests if your child can't seem to shake a cold you should bring him or her in soon.

"That becomes an issues when you have coughing and sneezing and close quarters and a lot of people we get it aggressively before school starts and take care of it once you get in those close quarters it can make a difference," says Perrin.

All of the doctors that I call say the key with a cold is to try to treat it first with over the counter medications.  If they don't help or the symptoms stick around for  several days go see your doctor.
