JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It's going to be a big summer for ticks and tick borne diseases. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, the CDC has a warning for you!

Tick season is here and it could be the worst one in decades when it comes to tick-borne diseases. That's because Lyme Disease is expected to explode in the next few months.

"In the U.S., ticks are living longer because of mild winters so the CDC is expecting 300,000 new cases this year of Lyme disease," said Mike Griffiths with Any Lab Test Now. He adds that families have been rushing in to get a blood test.

These tests not only detect an infection before symptoms surface. They can also test the actual tick if you bring it in.

Lyme disease only takes about 15 minutes to be transmitted. That's why its important to do a full body check if you've been walking around in the woods or tall grass. Use tweezers to remove the tick. Whatever you do, don't crush it with your fingers.
